Hull cleaning and propeller polishing afloat

  • 1 min read

Fouling on the bottom and the propeller takes away a ship’s speed. We clean the hull and polish the propeller in the water, without putting the ship in dock.

Three ways to clean a hull

We clean fouling off a hull by hand, by machine and by cavitation. The method is chosen for the ship and the fouling.

How cavitation cleaning works

A jet at 200–250 bar forms cavitation bubbles in the water. They take the fouling off, and the tool never touches the hull. Sea chest gratings and box coolers are cleaned the same way.

Propeller polishing

We polish propellers of any design and any diameter. A clean bottom and a smooth propeller give a ship its speed back and cut fuel consumption.

How the crew sees the work

The diver shoots digital video streamed over ON-LINE TV. The master, the superintendent or the surveyor watch the picture on board in real time.

What else we do afloat

In the water we also inspect the underwater part, measure plate thickness by ultrasound and repair the hull and the propeller and rudder. All of it is on the Ship servicing page.
